ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS ~ Basic Technique

¨ Description:   “Beledi & Taqsim 50/50”  Beledi is the most common rhythm in all Arabic music, ranging in tempo from medium to fast.  Technique is adaptable for both modern and traditional music.  Taqsim is the slowest tempo, associated with the more sensual movements.  Class time will be dedicated 50/50 to each of these two rhythms, and technique will be organized into a short routine.

¨ Day/Time:      Tuesday Evenings;  6:30-7:20 PM

¨ Tuition:          Six Weeks for $49 (non-residents $54)

¨ Status:           SOLD OUT:  Next session begins April 29.  Register early!  This class section has sold out every time it was offered for four consecutive years, and 2008 is no exception.  With the Saturday class no longer on the calendar, it is sure to sell out faster than ever.  As it stands right now, this is the only class that will be offered through the end of June.

¨ Description:   “Wake Up to a Shake-Up”  Energy level is highest in the morning, when we’re fresh and ready for the day.  We’ll put that energy to good use by focusing on hipwork and percussive movements which require more stamina and speed: shimmies, vibrations, twists and body locks.

¨ Day/Time:      Saturday Mornings;  10:15-11:05 AM

¨ Tuition:          Six Weeks for $49 (non-residents $54)

¨ Status:           On Recess:  Next session begins in the fall (September).  The spring schedule will not go to print in time to advertise a Saturday class in March.  And historically, Saturdays are not popular for adult classes in the summer months, due to vacation plans and outdoor activities for children.  Therefore, the current session which ends in March will be the last Saturday class we can offer until next fall.
