All classes can be described as either “basic” technique, or “applied” technique. Basic technique is the starting point for all beginners. As each class progresses, the instructor begins to teach to the median skill level in the room. When she observes that the students are ready to start learning a routine, the entire class will progress to applied technique as a group. This usually occurs in the January-June time frame. By definition, they are applying the technique they already know by learning a full-length routine. And from that point on, students continue to grow at their own pace, achieving new skill levels both as a group, and individually.
With that in mind, the skill level designated for each class is a guideline for self-assessment and placement purposes. The instructor will always teach to the median skill level of each group, while encouraging students to achieve their own, personal best. Newcomers are welcome to join any class already in progress throughout the year, providing it is has not been closed due to show preparation. However, private lessons may be required to catch up to the rest of the group. And throughout the year, the instructor reserves the right to reassign students to the appropriate skill level, if necessary.
Listed below are the skill level options, along with classes currently available by day and location. FOR COMPLETE INFORMATION, CLICK ON THE RED ARROW NEXT TO EACH CLASS SECTION.
ABSOLUTE BEGINNER = Appropriate for first-time students with no prior dance training, recently new beginners with less than a year of experience, or those who have taken class with another instructor for a short time. Also helpful for second-year students who want to reinforce their technique as they transition to the next level.
INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED = Suggested for more accomplished students who have two or more years of experience, and are capable of moving at a much faster pace. Stamina and a strong foundation of technique are musts. Advanced props such as cane and sword are introduced. A solid commitment is required to perform the intricate and demanding choreography. Therefore, participation is by invitation only and classes meet privately at the instructor’s home studio.

In addition to regular weekly classes, lessons are also available as introductory workshops and “house parties”. Examples include showers, birthdays, cultural awareness events, etc. Private lessons are also available on a limited basis for students with specific goals, such as professional coaching, choreography for competitions or pageants, etc. Contact Cedena for more information.
